The Great Three Days of Christian Liturgy

Dear Member or Friend of Resurrection Congregation,

Attached is a pamphlet created by one of our members to invite you and any others you may feel would be blessed to participate in The Great Three Days of Christian liturgy. This year, the dates are from March 28 through March 30. You can print the pamphlet yourself, or copies will be available in the church Narthex this Sunday and next Sunday for you to take.

As our Lenten journey approaches Holy Week, may we again be drawn in new and wonderful ways to the power of God's love in Christ at the Cross and the Empty Tomb! Blessed Lent, dear Church!

– Pastor Harry

Resurrection Evangelical Lutheran Church
6201 Washington Blvd, Arlington, VA 22205
Free street parking • Free-will offering

The advent of efficient music printing around 1530 spurred a market that reached well beyond traditional courtly audiences to include musically literate members of a growing merchant class. New types of social music flourished, ultimately ranging from straightforward multi-verse part songs to ambitious creations crafted to wring every nuance of image and passion from their poetry. We will present Italian and English madrigals, French chansons, villanellas, and more: http://www.carmina.org/upcomingperformances.php#25-FFM

Music at Resurrection

The Social Ministry Committee has designated Mandehah, LLC as the charity recipient of RELC's free-will offerings from Resurrection’s May 18th Carmina and Illuminare Concert.

Mandehah was founded in Madagascar by Henri Rabezanahary. Henri and his family emigrated from Madagascar to Arlington and Pastor Amy Sevimli received them into membership (probably in 2008). Steve Black has been working with Henri to identify sources of donations to support one of the programs that the non-profit is pursuing: to set up a dental health program in Madagascar using donated equipment from dental practices in the United States.

The mission of Mandehah is described on its website as follows:

"Our organization's purpose is to free Madagascar of grinding poverty. "Mandehah" in Malagasy means, "going forward," or "moving to the right path." We seek to improve access to clean water, adequate nutrition, dental health, and immunizations against illness in rural Madagascar.

Between 2021-2025, our goal is to provide community water resources, vaccinations, screening for tropical diseases, and reduce the number of malnourished children from age 5 and under. We will begin a dental health program in 2023 with the help of an international partner. We will provide dental screenings and treatments."

Henri has established an LLC in the United States, Mandehah, LLC, to receive donations to support Mandehah's projects in Madagascar. The LLC received an IRS tax-exempt organization determination letter in January 2023. Steve has personally donated to Mandehah, LLC.

Steve Black nominated Mandehah, LLC as a possible recipient of donations received at the next Music at RELC program. The Social Ministry approved this nomination at its meeting on March 7 and supports this recommendation as a recipient of funds donated at the May 18th Carmina and Illuminare Concert.

One of the goals of the Music at Resurrection committee is to seek out quality talent to perform at Resurrection Lutheran Church. Please reach out to Cathy Carr, either in church, or This email address is being protected from spambots. Recently, Voix de Femmes, a women's vocal ensemble that sings pieces written by female composers as a good part of its repertoire as well as compositions written by men, was proposed by RELC member Franz Gimmler to perform at RELC, potentially for a date in September that is to be confirmed. "Voix de Femmes" is based out of Laurel, Maryland.

Chrismon Project

Calling out to all crafters - if you like to knit, bead, string wire, work w/clay (a new medium) or even just want to learn in a group (or on your own) please contact Mimi Van Poole. Please note in the subject line: “Chrismons.” I will be providing several initial “kits” with all the supplies & instructions in the near future (once I find interested parties).

Chrismons Update

beginners 13To start our adventure into the art of making Chrismons, I have ordered two kits that will give us everything that we need to make a variety of the ornaments (see attached photo). The ornaments come in various sizes with all of the patterns/instructions and supplies to make them.

I will reach out with various dates for our first meeting to all of those who have shown an interest in helping to make Chrismons: perhaps an evening wine and cheese at the church’s lounge (did you know there was such a place?), at someone’s house (I’m happy to host), or after coffee hour one Sunday. If folks want to just take home the pattern and supplies to make one ornament, you are also welcome to do so. I expect to receive the kits within the next couple of weeks, so look for the first gathering to be held in early April. Please This email address is being protected from spambots.
